In between tests today, Mr. Wiley talked to the 5th graders about an exciting program which will start on Monday. It's called, "Step It Up!". It's run by the YMCA. Students were given pedometers and t-shirts today to kick off our participation in the program. On Monday we'll send home sheets for the students to record how many steps they take in one day. We will collect the sheets weekly and compare our activity to the other fifth graders around Beverly. We won last year, and are the proud owners of the Step It Up! Cup. We'd love to hold on to that prestigious honor for this year also. A notice went home today explaining the program. Look for tracking sheets on Monday.
Another moving opportunity is our annual Wog-a-thon on Thursday, May 5th. We desperately need volunteers to make this a success. Notices went home yesterday asking for volunteers and informing you of our Wog time which is 1:05. All proceeds from this amazing event go to our Dan Peterson Fund. Please help make this a successful day for all if you can. We need parents to stand at points around the playground to keep our woggers on course and cheer them on. Thanks in advance for your help with this.

What a fantastic trip we had today to visit our vernal pool with Kestrel Environmental Education. We found a snake, a turkey, a salamander, salamander eggs, and many other little nymphs and invertebrates. Our students were well-behaved, respectful of the environment and observant. Ask your child about their experience today.
We'll be starting our PARCC assessments this Thursday (4/28) and will finish next Tuesday (5/3). Please send in earbuds or headphones with your child if you can. We will supply headphones for those who do not have their own. Ms. Carpine will be coming in tomorrow for her booktalk. The genre for May is award-winner. We will also accept books who were honored, but did not win. Please send in any books that you would like her return to the library for you. |
